DIY replace and code battery on E90 E91 E92 E93

When replacing the battery on your BMW, the new battery needs to be coded in. If you are keeping the same spec battery, you can replace it and just do a simple reset in Tool32 to register the new battery. This is necessary or you new battery will not charge at the full rate or be at its optimal potential.

This is valid on all E series models including: E90, E91, E92, E93, E87, E82 and E88. I have completed this procedure with success on both E91 3 Series and E88 1 Series models.

Steps:
1) Open Tool32
2) Open the correct SGB file, for all mine it has been MSD80 in C:/EDIABAS/ECU/
3) Look up steuern_batterietausch_registri (near bottom of job list)
4) Double click steuern_batterietausch_registri to run the job, or better still go Job > Job Einmal Ausfuhren (run job once)
6) If successful, the report will open and will say OKAY.

Verify this has worked in INPA (optional):
Open Inpa and navigate to:

E90/E89 > ENGINE > MSD80.

Now press Status(F5)
Next press PM-IBS
Choose “PM FIELD 1”

On this screen you will see when the battery was last registered and at what mileage. Confirm the mileage currently matches this and you know you were successful.
